Card Collector from mid-80's to early 90's. This is what I would have blogged about back then. Cards are my own.

Classic Dale
Dale Murphy, perhaps the most underrated player of his era, in a classic kneeling pose. This guy put up some serious power numbers.

Righetti Strut '86
I can't tell what was happening in this photo. Could be he's watching a foul ball on the first base side, but I like to think he just struck someone out to end the game and is brashly strutting back to the dugout.

A new ranger in '89
Nolan Ryan stepped down as Rangers CEO this week. This '89 Topps Traded card was his first Topps card in a Rangers uniform (after coming over from Houston). He kinda looks like a future CEO.

Little guy in the corner
This '76 Topps was before my time but managed its way into my collection at some point. I like the little animated outfielder in the lower left. And the photo of Parker looks a little like a painting.

Gibson: a year before LA
'87 was Kirk Gibson's last year in Detroit. He already had a WS title with the Tigers, but was still a year away from heroics in LA.

'83 Topps pops
For whatever reason, Rickey seemed to have a lot of good looking cards. I'm actually amazed at the ones I have. I didn't remember collecting him as much as I did. The color on this '83 Topps example is great.

Ultra
Fleer Ultra 1991 had a headshot and two action shots on the back. In many ways more compelling than the front.

Seaver in Boston
Tom spent the last half of '86 with the Red Sox; the end of his career. He did not pitch in '87 but Topps cut a card for him, just in case.

Bo was the original Puig
Mattingly recently drew the comparison between Puig and Bo Jackson. I can definitely see it. Here's Bo in 1988 Topps.

Swing and a miss
It's interesting to see cards that clearly show a player doing something negative. Even more interesting to see it with a 'star'. I'm sure there were better shots of Schmidt doing something besides missing a pitch. At least he was smiling!

Need a third color
The Yankees and Reds (home uni's) are likely the exception, but for the most part you really need a third color to make your uniform pop. These Braves uniforms with just blue and white weren't getting it done. No wonder they started winning after they switched.
On a side note I remember coveting these All Star rookie cards. Clearly they didn't always pan out.

Aim at the red of my glove
Since the Reds lost in uninspiring fashion last night, fans will continue to have to relish memories from the 1990 WS champion team. I believe Joe Oliver wore red catchers gear, so I'm not sure the red on the mitt would have been very effective. You don't see many mitts like this anymore.
